In December 2004, the MHS Board of Trustees authorized the purchase and renovation of a three-story, 36,000-square-foot office building at 1744 Payne Avenue in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. This purchase launched the Board’s $6 million strategic initiative to create the physical infrastructure to sustain the operations of MHS, and support its continued growth and development. When construction and renovations were completed in April 2007, the structure became the agency headquarters, and houses programs that had formerly been based at three sites. The renovated building also has separate reception and clinic areas for children.

Progress Toward Project Completion

Asbestos abatement took place during January 2006. Construction and renovation work began in February 2006, and was originally scheduled for completion in November 2006. Work was actually completed in April, and staff members moved into the renovated building on 18 April 2007.

Don Dalton of Dalton North Coast, Inc. is the Project Manager. Mark A. Henning is the Project Architect.

Eric Morse, Director of Homeless Services, and Dr. Vrabel, Medical Director, review the first-floor plans on 30 March 2006. There will be separate entrances, reception areas, and clinic spaces for adults and children. A large conference room will be near the area where Eric and Dr. Vrabel stand. Adult clinic offices will be in the area of the photo's foreground.

Dr. Vrabel and Eric Morse discuss plans for the second floor. Eric is motioning to an area where the Mobile Crisis Team will be housed. The second floor of the renovated building will also bring staff members devoted to outreach into the same area as staff members conducting community support services, enhancing service coordination and efficiency.

Administrative offices will be on the third floor. You can see on the floor the faint outlines marking the location of office walls, in this photograph of 30 March 2006.
