Life Skills Specialist


South Pointe Commons

High school diploma or equivalent coupled with at least two years experience working with the homeless, or related populations. Candidates must be able to understand the Clubhouse model of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and the ability to apply it in a permanent housing facility. Candidates must have experience helping others learn daily life skills, serve as a positive role model, and practice good oral and written communication skills. An Ohio driver license with fewer than six points, proof of insurance meeting the requirements of Ohio's Financial Responsibility Act, and a reliable vehicle are also required.

The hours are Monday-Friday, 12:00pm to 8:30pm

Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) Specialist


West 14th Street and Liberty Commons programs

The CPST Specialist provides rehabilitative and supportive services for our Community Support program. We now have two full-time positions available, one serving clients of our West 14th Street permanent supportive housing program, and another serving clients of Liberty Commons.

CPST Specialists must meet Ohio Department of Mental Health provider qualifications, and be skilled in the coordination of care and services with providers of various disciplines from other programs and organizations.

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field. Candidates must have at least one year of professionally supervised experience in mental health or chemical dependency services. An Ohio driver license with fewer than six points, proof of insurance meeting the requirements of Ohio's Financial Responsibility Act, and a reliable vehicle are also required.

Outreach Worker


PATH program

Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) is a program created by the U.S. Congress in 1991 to support community-based services for homeless people who have serious mental illnesses. PATH staff members go where homeless individuals stay, establish trusting relationships with them, and then support their participation in psychiatric and supportive services.

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology or related field, a minimum of one year of professionally supervised work in the delivery of mental health, chemical dependency and/or social services. The demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential.

Bilingual skills are a plus. Work hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm; Tuesday and Thursday 10:30-7:00pm, although flexibility is required for times when services during other hours are needed. Program Manager


Edgewood Park

Responsible for the supervision of the support services staff, and direct oversight of the Edgewood Park Permanent Supportive Housing Program that will open later this year. Edgewood Park will serve 63 clients in a new-construction building east of downtown Cleveland, and 20 additional clients in scattered-site apartments. The Program Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of the program, in accordance with HUD rules and guidelines. The program is designed to provide a safe, non-threatening and supportive environment to homeless, disabled individuals. The Program Manager will also be responsible for working collaboratively with our partner agencies toward the mutual goal of sustaining an innovative supportive housing project that assist tenants to be active participants in the community, maintain their housing, and access high quality services.

Minimum requirements include, but are not limited to, a Master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, nursing or a social service field, an LISW, LPCC or MSN, and a minimum of three years work experience in a social service environment with one year of supervisory experience. Scheduled work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Unscheduled work during non-traditional hours is required at times when services are needed.

Program Specialist I


Community Women's Shelter

Weekends, 2nd and 3rd shift, and PRN

The MHS Community Women's Shelter provides homeless women and children with a safe shelter environment and the supportive services to help women achieve housing, health, increased income, and self determination. The Program Specialist I conducts screening interviews and needs assessments, and makes prompt and appropriate referrals to other shelters or service providers that meet participant needs, including substance abuse treatment services, and medical or psychiatric care. The Specialist must also prepare and submit timely and accurate documentation of all services.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, and one year applicable work or internship experience. Certification in CPR, First Aid, and non-violent crisis intervention is required within 60 days of hire. Applicants must also have an Ohio driver license with fewer than six points, proof of insurance meeting the requirements of Ohio's Financial Responsibility Act, the ability to drive to sites of service throughout Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and the ability to work non-traditional hours.

Hours for the 2nd shift are 12:00 pm to 10:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday. The hours for the 3rd shift are 10:30 pm to 9:00 am, Saturday and Sunday. The PRN position is for various shifts, as needed.

Registered Nurse


Psychiatric Services

Full-time provider of psychiatric medical services to include comprehensive physical health assessments, recommendations, and follow-up treatments for persons who have a severe mental illness and are homeless. Duties include, but are not limited to administering IM injections and TB testing, overseeing medication administration, and coordination of laboratory testing.

Qualified candidates must have certification as a RN or LPN within the state of Ohio, coupled with at least three years of experience working with the severely mentally disabled population in a medical environment. Qualified trainer in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid preferred. Applicants must have an Ohio driver license with fewer than six points, proof of insurance meeting the requirements of Ohio's Financial Responsibility Act, and the ability to drive to sites of service throughout Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Work hours are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday –Friday.

Program Manager 2


Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment

This Program Manager is responsible for the implementation and operation of the agency’s Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) Model and Forensic Services. The Program Manager provides administrative direction and the coordination of services provided to clients with co-occurring mental and substance-use disorders in any MHS homeless assistance program.

Qualified candidates must possess a Master’s degree in social, behavioral, or human services, and current licensure as a LISW or LPCC, and the ability and willingness to work non-traditional shifts if needed. Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling highly preferred. Bi-lingual skills are a plus. Applicants must have an Ohio driver license with fewer than six points, proof of insurance meeting the requirements of Ohio's Financial Responsibility Act, and the ability to drive to sites of service throughout Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Shift Supervisor


Community Women's Shelter

3rd shift

Responsible for ensuring client-centered safety and security, and providing direct services to homeless women who utilize the Community Women’s Shelter. This position is responsible for overseeing the Residential Specialists assigned to the shift, ensuring that communication regarding the residents and the facility is passed between shifts, and maintaining the smooth operations of the shelter program. Prepares and submits timely and accurate documentation.

Must possess Associates Degree or equivalent experience (2 years) related work experience.

Crisis Intervention Specialists

The Crisis Intervention Specialist provides hotline, suicide prevention, crisis assessment, and crisis intervention services. One is needed for the 24/7 operations of our Mobile Crisis Team. MCT services were the basis for the nation's first scientific demonstration of the effectiveness of community-based crisis intervention services. (For a summary, click here.) Services are provided at the client's home, worksite, and other settings in the community. Services require effective and responsive collaboration with other healthcare providers.

The CIS must meet Ohio Department of Mental Health provider qualifications - most commonly, current Ohio licensure as an LSW or LPC.  The CIS has the knowledge, skills, and experience required to conduct crisis and diagnostic assessments, and to formulate diagnoses using DSM-IV criteria. The CIS makes treatment recommendations based on assessment information and knowledge of available resources that minimize risks to the client and community. The CIS selects and conducts crisis intervention services, works with clients to develop service plans, and effectiveness of the plan. Requires an Ohio driver license with fewer than six points, the ability to drive to sites of service throughout Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and the ability to work non-traditional hours.

MHS has well-established procedures for the collection, analysis, and utilization of outcome data.  These data demonstrate that MHS programs have been effective in helping clients achieve meaningful goals.
